Joycee

Because I talk to Joycee the most at the moment and I’m involved with him a lot in music, I thought I’d write about him first.

The first time I met him, I collaborated with him on a project. I needed someone to play electric guitar on a song for my album. (This was around the end of 2013. Back then I knew nothing about music). I asked a lad I knew who was in a band if he knew anyone. He was the drummer of a band called Dead Horse Jive and he passed my message onto his guitarist. At the time I was recording over backing tracks in The Forge Recording Studio but this was the first ever acoustic song I recorded. I’d like to mention Joe O’Brien on acoustic. Martin (the drummer) brought Joycee out to see what he could do. With no knowledge of chords or musical structure whatsoever, I sent him in to figure it all out on his own. Years later, I realized my ignorance.

I met Joycee again a year later, around the end of 2014, when he and a few others, who will be on this list, started going to the open mics. From this point on, we realized we had very similar ways of thinking. The longer we knew each other the more we collaborated until the point came where I popped the question. “Joycee, will you be in my band”. He was already part of his own band Dead Horse Jive but it was a polygamous relationship (I think I used that word right) so he played guitar for me too.

Since then, we’ve recorded a lot of songs together, along with the rest of The Crazed Family. Looking back, I don’t know how I did without him. With him happy to play music for me, all I need to worry about is the lyrics and a few chords.

Some of our work can be found on my Bandcamp page!
